A Terrifying Encounter with the Jack O’ Lantern Mimic: A Resin Armies Community Tale

It was the night before All Hallows’ Eve when I encountered something that made my blood run cold—a creature that I would never have imagined could exist. I had always been a skeptic of myths, but this particular encounter shattered my disbelief in the strange and horrific world of fantasy creatures.

As a proud member of the Resin Armies community, I had always felt an intense connection to the miniatures and the lore that surrounded them. Resin Armies is known for crafting the finest 3D printed miniatures, and the attention to detail is unparalleled. Whether you’re into traditional tabletop games or role-playing adventures, there’s a certain thrill that comes with acquiring and painting miniatures that are as unique as the characters they represent.

But nothing could have prepared me for the night I found myself face-to-face with a true terror—a Jack O’ Lantern Mimic.

The Beginning of the Nightmare: A Simple Halloween Tradition

It all started with a simple tradition. Every year, my friends and I would host a Halloween party in the woods just outside our town. The setting was perfect: fog drifting through the trees, dimly lit lanterns casting eerie shadows, and the sounds of the forest adding to the unsettling atmosphere. As usual, I was responsible for the decorations, and this year, I had decided to go above and beyond. I had spent weeks preparing, sourcing pumpkin-shaped lanterns to adorn the path leading to our party. As a member of the Resin Armies community, I couldn’t resist the temptation to add a personal touch to my decorations—so I used some of the miniatures I had from Resin Armies to create a spooky, lifelike scene.

Among the decorations was a particularly impressive Jack O’ Lantern. I had sculpted it from resin using a 3D printed mold I found through the Resin Armies store, and I had painted it with meticulous care. The face I created was a grotesque grin, filled with menacing teeth and eyes that seemed to glimmer with malice in the dim light. It stood proudly among the other pumpkins, its flickering candlelight illuminating its wicked expression.

When my friends arrived, they were immediately impressed with the setup. We had a blast, telling stories of haunted spirits and creatures that roamed the night, just like any Halloween celebration should be. But as the night grew darker, something began to feel… off. It started with a low, almost imperceptible rumble from the woods, followed by the sound of something heavy dragging through the underbrush. I brushed it off as an animal or perhaps someone trying to prank us, but deep down, I felt a sense of unease that I couldn’t shake.

The Jack O’ Lantern Mimic Reveals Itself

After we had gathered around the bonfire, someone pointed toward the pumpkin lantern, which now seemed to flicker unnaturally. At first, I thought it was just the wind causing the candle inside to flicker erratically, but when I looked more closely, I noticed something that chilled me to the bone—the pumpkin’s grin seemed wider, more pronounced.

Suddenly, with a loud crack, the pumpkin split open, revealing jagged teeth that gleamed like bone and a hideous maw filled with dark, sticky saliva. I froze. The others didn’t seem to notice at first, assuming it was just a trick of the shadows, but when the lantern began to move on its own, the truth became horrifyingly clear.

The Jack O’ Lantern wasn’t a decoration. It was alive. It was a Mimic.

For those unfamiliar with Mimics, they are shape-shifting creatures capable of disguising themselves as inanimate objects to lure prey. Usually, they take the form of chests or other objects that adventurers might mistake for treasure. However, this one had chosen to become a Jack O’ Lantern—a perfect, terrifying disguise for Halloween night.

Its carved face was no longer just an expression. It was a portal to its malevolent, insatiable hunger. The pumpkin-like shell peeled back to reveal a mass of writhing tentacles and sharp, glistening teeth. The creature was far larger than I had anticipated, its body stretching far beyond the size of the lantern that had concealed it.

The Horror Unfolds

Panic ensued as the Mimic lunged toward the nearest person, its monstrous form a blur of pumpkin-orange and shadow. The air was thick with the sounds of snapping teeth and the horrifying screeching of its victim. My heart raced as I scrambled for cover, trying to keep my friends from getting devoured by the relentless creature.

I realized in that moment that the Mimic wasn’t just a grotesque version of a Halloween decoration; it was a predator, born from the depths of nightmare. Its appetite was insatiable, and it reveled in terror, delighting in the confusion and fear that its victims felt before they were swallowed whole.

I knew then that this Mimic was no ordinary creature. It was far more dangerous than any of the stories I had heard. Its skin was thick and tough, seemingly impervious to normal weapons, and its tentacles moved with a grace and speed that made it almost impossible to avoid. The pumpkin’s once-innocent, jack-o’-lantern face had now become an emblem of fear, a cruel reminder that sometimes, the things we think we know can be twisted into something far more sinister.

I could hear my friends yelling in panic, and in that moment, I realized that our survival depended on quick thinking. There was no time for fear. I had to act.

A Desperate Fight for Survival

Without thinking, I grabbed the nearest object—an old iron rod from the bonfire—and rushed toward the Mimic. I swung it toward the creature’s dark maw, striking the base of the pumpkin where its skin was still thick. The Mimic let out a shriek of pain, and for a moment, I thought it might retreat. But instead, it whipped around, its tentacles grabbing for me, its sharp teeth snapping dangerously close to my face.

I ducked and dodged, my heart pounding in my chest. One of my friends managed to find a flare gun in the woods, and with trembling hands, they fired it at the Mimic. The bright flare shot through the air, illuminating the creature in a brilliant light that seemed to weaken its power, at least for a brief moment. The Mimic shrieked in fury, but the sudden brightness caused it to retract for just enough time to allow us to escape.

We made a hasty retreat into the deeper part of the woods, breathing heavily, our minds racing. The Mimic followed us for a short distance before it finally gave up, retreating back into the darkened forest.

That night, we learned just how easily fantasy can blur into reality. The Jack O’ Lantern Mimic was a nightmare made flesh, and it’s one that still haunts my dreams to this day. I never thought that something so seemingly innocuous as a Halloween decoration could become the embodiment of horror.
